Twelve-year-old Hollis, a gifted young artist, has been in so many foster homes she can hardly remember them all. But when she is sent to live with Josie, a retired art teacher, the two bond immediately. Yet Hollis’s happiness is overshadowed by the realisation that Josie keeps forgetting things. Soon Josie needs a carer even more than Hollis does. At the same time, Hollis deeply misses her last foster family, the Regans – with whom she finally found happiness, only for things to go wrong.
