Doll Bones
Even scarier than Coraline. Holly goes blacker than black in this tale of a doll made from the bones of a dead girl. And she wants to play… Zach, Poppy and Alice have been playing the same game for years: a game of pirates and thieves, mermaids and warriors. Ruling over all is the Great Queen, a bone-china doll who curses those who cross her. But when Zach quits the game, Poppy starts having dreams about the Queen – and the ghost of a girl who will not rest until the doll is buried in her empty grave. Is the doll just a doll, or something more sinister? And if there really is a ghost, will it ever let them go? If you thought Spiderwick was dark, you haven’t yet read Doll Bones. A Newbery Honor medallist, with the reviews to match.

What if our games and fantasies were real? Three children-on the edge of adolescence-set off on one last adventure in answer to a dead girl’s wishes. Beautifully written. I particularly enjoyed the friendships between Poppy, Zach, and Alice. Scary, but not too scary. You must buy this book!
