  2. I just finished reading this book today and can’t help smiling every time I think about the ending. Ella, a young girl is devastated to find her Mum lying in a coma not able to move or speak. This leaves Ella lonely at school without her best friend sally, angry with her step-dad and upset that she can’t talk to her Mum. With all these problems running through her mind she has trouble at school with Martha, a nasty girl in Ella’s class. Soon Ella learns about whales and finds out that they sing underwater to their family. When Ella discovers that one whale sang underwater for 22 hours! The sounds that they make are moans and groans, but it’s up to Ella to find out if the whales singing can reach out to her Mum and wake her.
